Nutritional Feeding Project

The World Health Organization has reported hunger and related malnutrition as the greatest single threat to the world's public health. Improving nutrition is widely regarded as the most effective form of aid. Eating a proper nutritious diet offers numerous health benefits that keep a person mentally and physically well. Unhealthy eating, specifically malnutrition, is another leading cause of death in Africa. In Rakai, many children cannot survive to their fifth birthday because of Kwashiorkor and the related diseases which is largely attributed to poor feeding. Two programs have been developed in line with this project:

Feeding Program

In partnership with Feed My Starving Children (FMSC), a Christian non-profit organization in USA and some friends, we have been able to serve nutritious meals to children both in school and vulnerable families. Feed My Starving Children is a non-profit Christian organization committed to feeding God’s children hungry in body and spirit. These meals are hand-packed and specifically formulated for malnourished children all over the world. We thank God for all the friends who have always made donations to see that these meals finally reach the children in Rakai. These meals have had such great impact in the community and have saved lives of many children. We are constantly looking for donors to help us raise funds for shipping and paying the relevant taxes. You can save children by donating towards the Feeding Fund.

Nutritional Farming Program

Because it is very expensive to transport the nutritional meals from USA, we have developed a program that will complement our feeding program. The Nutritional Farming Program encourages people to grow various crops and fruit trees. At the moment, we support the women to grow fruits that do well on the local soils and these include Mangoes, Papaya (Pawpaws), Oranges and Lemon. Besides the fruits, we encourage the women to grow some coffee as a source of income for the household to be able to buy other household necessities. The men greatly support the initiative since it also reduces pressure on them to provide for the health needs of the family which they cannot afford. The sale of some fruits also becomes of a source of additional income for the family which can be used to support children in school. In addition, good health means that the family members are able to work harder for the development of the family. Support this program - save a household by making a donation today. Below is the detail of the total investment in each Household.

Your donation of $235 will save the whole household by providing seedlings for assorted fruit trees, coffee, as well as a sprayer and some pesticides.
